Hello, dear reader and lover of the sport. Thank you for coming.
This split-gender Nationals season, we’re hoping to relaunch, revamp, and refresh the role that IOU plays in the community. This means more content about the things that interest you, and we need your help to make it happen.
The best part of IOU has always been your stories. There is a lot of knowledge, insights, opinions, and incredible people in our community—IOU is trying to be a place to share these things. A place for conversations, for the occasional argument, for cataloguing great moments from the history of Ultimate in Australia and New Zealand, for memes, for bant, for technical insight, and for growth.
But! Stories and written content are not the only way you can contribute to Inside Out Ultimate. In the coming months, we’re hoping to dance with some data, create playbooks, up our total meme quota, and create interesting content in all new formats.
In this short article, we’re going to outline some of the ways you can help contribute to Inside Out Ultimate. There are many, many, many, so please read through!
Ways to Help Out IOU
Create content with us. No matter what stage your idea is at—in fact, even if you don’t have an idea at all—we are always looking for writers, video wizards, crossword builders, comic drawers, and content editors to help us make things. If your Slack posts pop off, if your memes are better than Ben Powlays (hard to imagine), if you have a lot of thoughts about throwing mechanics, if you are able to contribute your energy to developing a piece of content with us, fill in this form here. We will help! A lot! As much as you want! We’ve put together heaps of resources and advice for new (and old) content creators, we just need you to let us know who you are!
Joining our data gathering and analysis team. Perfect for uni students and frisbee nerds who watch a lot of ultimate, we’re looking for volunteers to help us gather some stats. It’ll only add a bit of time to your usual frisbee watching, and will be highly valuable for our analysts—to find out more, fill in this form here. Data nerds/analysts also encouraged to fill in the form!
Give us your content ideas. Is there something that your uni club really sucks at and wants to improve? Are you always asked the same questions by rookies learning to throw a flick? Did you have a thrilling, three-hour hypothetical argument about who would win in a fight between Gak and the Dowle brothers? Great! Whatever your content idea is, you can submit it via this form.
Help us out with design. Canva is only as good as the moron (me) who wields it. Nic Lelli has been making the graphics recently, and they’re so, so good—but Nic is a busy guy! There’s a big content repository we’re looking to re-upload in the next few weeks, and you can help us make this impactful! We’re trying to put together a little team of people with different creative design skills, if that’s something you’re interested in, fill in the form here.
Manage our socials. This is a bit of a longshot, but we’re always looking for ways to add people to the team—if you’re a savvy social media manager and want to help out, email hello.insideoutultimate@gmail.com.
Let us know what past articles you want to see again! You can do this wherever—messaging our Facebook or instagram page, commenting on our posts, or emailing hello.insideoutultimate@gmail.com. You can also fill in the content idea form above.
Volunteer your friends against their will. This is a big one. Some of the best pieces of content IOU has ever produced have come from (at first) unwilling participants. Creative people are often shy, and bad at reading all the way through posts like this, and if you know someone who can contribute to any of the above points, please harass them on our behalf and get them to fill in the form. We’ve got a really great support network setup for contributors—it doesn’t matter what your skill level or playing experience, if you have a good idea, or any content development skills, we really, really want to hear from you. You’re not locking yourself into anything by signing up! It’ll just help us start a conversation about ways you (and your talented friends) can contribute.
The Kind of Content That We’re Looking For
To help get the creative juices flowing, here are just some of the kinds of content we want to develop with you. If anything below sparks interest, fill in the Content Creator form and we’ll get in touch! We have ideas ready to go for each of these categories, so also fill in the content form if you’ve got the skills or desire to make one of them happen!
